Low Fat Swiss Steak Recipe
Ingredients
* 1 pound lean round steak, tenderized* 1/2 cup flour
* 2 tablespoons of canola oil or Smart Balance Cooking Spray
* 1 can chopped tomatoes, with juice (do not drain)
* 1 onion, chopped
* 4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
* 4 carrots, cut lengthwise in 2 in. strips
* 1 bay leaf
* 1 teaspoon garlic powder
* salt and pepper to taste
Directions
1. Coat both sides of steak with flour.2. Heat oil in non-stick skillet (or spray generously with Smart Balance cooking spray) and add steak. Cook until meat is lightly browned.
3. Add onion, carrots, tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder and bay leaf. Cover and simmer on low heat for 45 minutes. Turn steak after 25 minutes.
4. Place steak in an oven safe casserole dish, cover and bake at 300 degrees for 1 and 1/2 hours.
