Boiled cabbage can be a pretty bland dish. Our recipe adds a touch of vinegar and hot sauce to liven it up. Cabbage is very low in fat and makes a tasty, filling side dish for any Southern meal.
Ingredients
* 1 large head cabbage* 2 tablespoons Canola oil
* 1 tablespoon white vinegar
* 2 tablespoons salt
* 2 chicken bouillon cubes
* 1 package sugar substitute (Splenda, Sweet'N Low or SugarTwin)
* 1 teaspoon black pepper
* dash of Tabasco Sauce (optional)
Directions
1. Cut cabbage into large sections. Discard the hard center. Place in a large pot and cover with water.2. Add remaining ingredients. Cover pot with a lid, bring to a boil and simmer until cabbage is tender, but firm (10-15 minutes).
Serve with Southern Cornbread.
